While I was working out recently the instructor said something that really stuck with me. It was just what I needed to get me through a tough part of the workout. She said “Your mind gives up quicker than your body.” It really inspired me to push my body to its limits. Sometimes during my workouts before we get to the arms section my mind will say that I should use the lighter weights. Most of the time I still reach for the heavier weights and am able to use them longer than my mind told me I could. Your body will give out at a certain point, but most of the time your mind will tell you to give up first.
When you are doing something that is difficult, and you are ready to give up, pause. Ask yourself if you physically can’t go on or if this is just your mind telling you to give up. Most of the time it’s just your mind giving up.
I am going to use this mantra to help get through difficult tasks from now on. When I get to a point where I don’t think I can do it anymore I will ask myself if this is my body telling me I can’t do it or if it is my mind.
